El Salvador and Macedonia are the latest additions to the ever-growing list of IBIS users
MONTREAL - May 28, 2007
Forensic Technology is proud to announce the recent addition of two new countries to the ever-growing list of IBIS (Integrated Ballistics Identification Systems) users. Indeed, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia joins 41 other countries and territories, including El Salvador which had itself recently joined the ranks of IBIS users.
The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
In the case of Macedonia, the national forensic laboratory, which is located in the city of Skopje, has been renovated and has been equipped with our state-of-the-art IBIS technology as part of the country’s ongoing police reform. The whole has been made possible by the efforts of the European Agency for Reconstruction, which is responsible for the management of the main EU assistance programs in Macedonia as well as in the Republics of Serbia (including Kosovo) and Montenegro. The EU-funded project intends to strengthen and develop the police’s evidence management and forensic analysis capabilities.
El Salvador
As of March, El Salvador’s National Civil Police (PNC) began using IBIS, which, as stated by PNC Chief Rodrigo Àvila, will signify that “even though we may not be able to determine who killed the victim, we will now know what firearm was used to commit the crime”.
According to police authorities, the use of IBIS will lead to better results in their investigations. As for the major impact that the technology will have on providing actionable investigatory intelligence in a timely manner, the chief of PNC’s Scientific Division, Julio Cesar Santana, confirmed that:” with this new system, ballistics identification will be much faster than what it has been up to now.”
About Forensic Technology
Forensic Technology pioneered automated ballistics identification more than fifteen years ago and continues to be a leader in ballistics and firearms identification technologies that promote a safer society. We partner with hundreds of public safety agencies in over 40 countries and territories, providing cost-effective and sustainable solutions. With vast experience in scalable-networked solutions, we employ a dedicated team of engineering, forensic, and law enforcement professionals around the world.
Our IBIS technology can find the “needle in the haystack”, suggesting possible matches between pairs of spent bullets and cartridge cases at speeds well beyond human capacity in order to help forensic experts give detectives more timely information about crimes, guns, and suspects. When used independently, our products are powerful law enforcement tools.
When these components are connected to form seamless systems and networks, they can take crime fighting to new levels of performance. You can learn more about Forensic Technology at forensictechnologyinc.com.
